Who can benefit from YourScan?
Women and men over 40 who are concerned about silent but potentially serious conditions within their bodies or individuals at high risk for lung, colon or heart disease can benefit from YourScan. Smokers, individuals exposed to secondhand smoke, individuals with chronic lung disease, and those with strong family histories of certain cancers and vascular disorders are considered high risk.

What diseases can YourScan detect?
Lung cancer, emphysema, bronchitis, fluid in the lungs, infection, coronary arteriosclerosis, aneurysm of the aorta, liver cancer and other growths, gall stones, kidney stones, kidney cancer and other masses, adrenal tumors, ovarian masses, uterine masses, bladder cancers, spinal problems, osteoporosis, polyps.

Does a CT scan find everything that may be dangerous?
Although CT scans are highly accurate, no single test can find every potential silent problem. Microscopic diseases cannot be detected. Certain cancers require specific studies to detect them in their earliest stages. For instance, a mammogram is necessary to detect early breast cancer and a PSA is required to detect prostate cancer.

How should I prepare for my scan?
No preparation is needed for any scans other than the virtual colonoscopy. Click here for prep guidelines on virtual colonoscopies.

What happens during the scan?
First you change into a gown, which makes testing easier and more comfortable. You lie down on the table while the technician automatically moves the table through a donut-shaped open ring. It only takes a few seconds to take hundreds of thin slice-like pictures. You will then get dressed and, depending on your test, you may have a consultation with a radiologist.

Is the scan painful or uncomfortable?
There is no pain associated with a scan. All you need to do is lie on the scanner bed and take a few deep breaths.

What if I'm claustrophobic?
This should not be a problem. Unlike an MRI where you're passed through a long tube, with a CT scan you're passed through a non-claustrophobic "ring."

What are the risks of radiation exposure?
We use low-dose protocols, minimizing the risk to non-calculable levels.

What happens after my scan?
After YourScan, you'll meet with one of our board-certified radiologists to review your completely confidential test results. You'll also receive a CD that includes YourScan for future reference or sharing with your physician.

Do I get a copy of my scan results?
After you've consulted with our board-certified radiologist, we'll give you a written report as well as a CD of your images. The typed report will be mailed to you within one week.

How often should I have a scan done?
It depends on the individual and the results of the scan. For most people, having a scan every two to five years is appropriate, unless there is a sooner indication.

Do I need a doctor's referral for YourScan?
Most exams do not need a physician referral, unless the doctor would like a report mailed or faxed to their office.

Can YourScan results be used in place of medical procedures that my doctor orders?
Unless specifically authorized by your physician, YourScan results may not necessarily be used in lieu of diagnostic tests such as MRIs, CAT scans and colonoscopy exams. Check with your doctor before scheduling your procedure to be sure.

How much does YourScan cost?
There are different CT scan procedures with prices ranging from $195 to $950. Click here for more information. Or, call 443-481-3200 or toll-free 1-800-223-0403. We'll be happy to explain all the available options.

Will my health insurance pay for YourScan?
We can provide you with information (CPT codes) that may help you obtain insurance reimbursement. However, most traditional insurance policies do not cover CT screening services. You may pay for YourScan using medical flex spending accounts.
